Village of Ocean Beach Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative
On June 12th, Governor Cuomo issued Executive Order 203 directing all municipalities with police departments to undergo a transparent and comprehensive review of their policing practices and procedures. All local governments throughout the State which have a local police department are required to participate and adopt a plan by April 1, 2021.

On August 17th, Governor Cuomo released the Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative Resources and Guide for Public Officials and Citizens. This document provides a roadmap and resources for local officials and their communities to utilize while navigating the Police Reform Collaborative process.
The mission of the Village of Ocean Beach Police Reform & Reinvention Group is to work collaboratively to examine current policies and procedures of the Ocean Beach Village Police Department and receive additional input from the community and key stakeholders providing the essential foundation necessary to develop a comprehensive policing plan for the Village that supports safe, effective, and equitable policing.
The Mayor and I have been talking extensively about the process and what needs to be done. Certain police department rules and regulations are being updated to meet the new requirements of the state. Soon the Mayor will be choosing a group of citizens to also review the policies which then will also be for public involvement and comment. As things develop everyone will be kept in the loop for transparency and all policies will be on the village website.
